Re: Darker stain = shorter life-spanPosted by Natasha Papousek on July 25, 2001 at 02:20:08: In reply to: Re: Darker stain = shorter life-span posted by Kenzi on July 24, 2001 at 02:40:50: I just did a bellydance festival -- and no-one was worried about how*long* the stain would last -- they just wanted predictable dark results that lasted at least a week (which is all I ever told anyone they lasted anyways -- I figured to err on the side of caution and if it lasted longer, they would be very happy and hire me again). OK, so there was one woman who had spent time in Morocco who really grilled me about my henna and wanted henna that was not only black, but lasted a month (like the stuff she got in Morocco)...in further conversation I discovered that the blackness was from a "compound" made into a stinky paste that was applied after the henna paste came off. Ah...most likely ammonia crystals...so I took her number and told her I would call her if I learned the secret of darkening henna to black without irritating the skin (just like they did it in Morocco)... so, if you have any clues as to what these crystals are called, and whether I could find them in our local Arabic shop, please let me know. Back to the darker stain topic, I think folks at a fair situation are looking for fairly quick results and they don't want to wait with bandages for a long time, so the terped-up paste is perfect. For individual clients, I will offer a choice of recipes. And actually, I was thinking of calling the oil blends things like "Goddess Blend" (with some jasmine and vetiver in with the geranium oil) and "Chakra Blend" -- things that will appeal to the types of people who have asked me to do individual sessions with them...and still offer henna, lemon juice and tea for the purists.
