Yep, it's the protein precipitates that oxidize to a dark colour. I
just bought some Castle Arts henna and I'm still in the fresh orange
stage of a palm (the hand, not the tree) design right now. The batch
I got was quite full of twigs and stuff but very bright green...I
wonder if I got the last of the old stuff or some of the new stuff. I
would sure love to see chocolate brown for once. I am impressed how
deep the stain came out with just lemon juice, and I also noticed the
smell was much more pleasant without all the other ingredients.
